In/around studios since the 90's. Have been doing "music" since the 80's in my early teens and have worked everything from a 16-track 1" TASCAM reel-to-reel deck on "all analog everything" to FastTracker ][ to Ableton Live 9. I'm the former owner/operator of subLOGIC.fm, a dubstep & heavy-bass electronic dance music blog operated out of San Francisco, CA. Its slogan for its entire lifespan was, "Hear music. Support artists. Simple." Basically? I paint with sound. The pictures aren't always pretty.
I despise what this service has become. So, I'm off to build my own little puff in the sky. My computer programming skills simply mean I don't need this service anywhere near as much as they need content creators. And, with their policies, advertising and everything else, now, it's officially easier and cheaper to build my own site instead of worrying about this one at all. Hobbyist producers and DJs who literally only do this for fun aren't welcome here anymore. I guess our innovation has served its purpose. So, I'm done trying to rely on "cloud" services for personal content. It's not like I need to share what I do. I just want to. And, I can do that on my own. So, this was that point along my timeline where SoundCloud and I had a relationship. Then, we broke up. This is me refusing to obey.
I decided to choose a genre (Hybrid Trap in this case) and spin the first five free downloads matching that genre in my SoundCloud feed. The mixes are named for their first and last track. This is the "Ego Death Headshot" mix created by grabbing five random-ass tracks off SoundCloud. I did reorder them for better flow, but I selected among nothing else. I just use what an NS6 on Serato DJ can do on an old-ass Windows desktop as a hobby. This one's uploaded as a 320Kbps MP3 because the sources were all MP3s anyway. It's just a hobby. They're not all AIFFs mixed from WAV source on Beatport. I also want people to be able to re-create the mixes and have fun on their own using all free downloads they can easily grab right here and go rip shit up. If you do, hit me up. I'd like to hear your mixes of the same tracks to hear how you'd approach the same thing. TRACK LISTING: ELEVATE - Ego Death (ft. A mashup I threw together in Ableton Live 9 to create an intro texture I wanted for my Insert Finger Into Socket mix. This is Obeson - Alone x Skream - Corporate Sell-Out with a lot of automation in the arrangement.
Another somewhat inspired mix. Leaving this here as a one-take homage to what the world can do with opinions, Oddly, I am interested in your opinion of the mix. Just thought this'd be some funny shit to unleash on SoundCloud. TRACK LIST: Justin Hartinger - Temptations F3tch - Warfare Apashe - Sand Storm ft. No idea why. Seriously. But, when I saw this photo on the Internets, it inspired this mix. It's a one-take live mix with fuck-ups that I genuinely don't care about, the Internet probably will. Anyway, it's just a fun romp through some bass-heavy tunes I like to listen to. Recorded in Serato DJ using a Numark NS6 and Korg padKontrol controllers because your favorite DJs can't drive this snow plow. I can. They're deliberate, because things are all wrong :)
Jan 19, 2017: Will soon be featured in the independent documentary film, "FORGOTTEN," which focuses on homelessness. Will provide a link when it's available! A basic hip-hop track with PLENTY of room for a vocal with bass-heavy west coast electronic dance music voicing on 100% custom sound design in Ableton Live 9. Yes, I would be willing to customize it to fit a specific need. And, yes, if you shoot me the vocal I will master your performance into the mix as I would want to hear it. Creative Commons Non-Commercial license applied. Enjoy :)
Used my Galaxy S4 to test the SoundCloud record feature and got the Penn Hills #7 on one of its many, many daily outbursts. Will probably also redo this one in stereo using the Blue Yeti hanging out my window.
Used my Galaxy S4 to test SoundCloud's record feature and got a bit of a thunderstorm that rolled through today. Disappointed in the overall result. Need to do another one of these using the Blue Yeti next time :)
When the only tattoo on your whole body says, "Keep It Real," do you really need another? No. No, you don't. You don't need another tattoo. You nailed it on the first try. Take up boxing. You're a bad-ass. Produced, mixed & mastered by Voltage Technician in Ableton Live 9 using Massive, Cyclop and a metric fuck-ton of samples. http://www.voltagetechnician.com
