Sime Theme (Quarion RMX)
SOUNDCLOUD exclusive! This is a remix I did for Swedish techno boys Lechoix. They put the parts of "Sime Theme" on SoundCloud, so you knew I had to mess with it...check out the original at http://soundcloud.com/lechoix/sime-song-test-1-1

Iron Curtis B2B Quarion - Astral Basement @ Paloma Bar, 11 Jan 2020
At the beginning of January last year, Iron Curtis and I played a memorable all-nighter at Paloma Bar for which we decided to dig deep in our Broken Beat and Dubstep collection so that we could try to stay clear of the four to the floor. Of course, we ended up playing House and Techno as well :-) This was a special night for multiple reasons, the most peculiar one being that this gig would turn out to be my last club performance before the pandemic... This edit of the original 10-hour recording covers roughly the first four hours of our back 2 back. Special thanks to Finn and the Palomas for the invitation (and the recording!) and all the friends who showed up that night.

2009 Mono_Cult DJ Mix (2020 Remaster)
They say nothing gets lost on the internet but for some reason this decade-old mix seems to have fully disappeared from all portals... so when someone recently reached out via Facebook and told me that he would like to listen to it "again during quarantine", I thought it would be the perfect excuse to finally upload that mix on my own page. Back in 2009, I recorded this selection for Mono_Cult, a cool and dedicated crew from Leeds who were running parties and a podcast series. The series had a strictly "no playlist" policy and I remember getting quite a few "Track ID?" requests via mail or myspace (LOL) when the mix was published... let's see if it's still the case now! Enjoy! Q ps: special thanks to the Mono_Cult crew and Ed for reaching out. pps: what RA thought of the mix back then: https://www.residentadvisor.net/news/48129 ppps: that pic was taken in Tokyo in 2009. I was proud that Retreat's second EP by Session Victim (featured in the mix) found its way over there!

Shades - LP Teaser
Thirteen years after Quarion released the instant classic "Karasu" on Drumpoet, he returns to the label with yet another remarkable debut. His first album "Shades" takes you on an emotional journey to the deeper realms of House Music encompassed by elements of Detroit Techno, Dub and Electronica. All of the nine tracks fully display Quarion's unmistakable musicality and state-of-the-art production skills and are, undoubtedly, the artist's most accomplished work to date. Ever since starting to produce as Quarion back in 2006, Yanneck Salvo has enjoyed an exciting career with stellar releases on Retreat, Innervisions, Tamed Musiq and certainly Drumpoet. 2016 proved to be a turning point artistically as well as personally, which eventually triggered an outburst of inspiration consolidating in the core of "Shades". After two years spent on refining this music, Yanneck felt that the bond between the tracks was too strong to be split across various EPs and chose instead to elaborate his vision as a full-scale album. The nine pieces that make up “Shades“ are quintessential Quarion, yet their scope is both broader and more precise than on previous releases by the Swiss producer. The beautiful melancholy of “Indigo (Aries)”, the rich layers of “Periwinkle” or the panoramic journey of “Cobalt (Plains)” are testimonial to the new depth in the music of the Berlin-based artist. In addition, the album has highly benefitted from a more experimental writing process, showcased in the bass-heavy ambient piece “Teal” or the sliding pads of “Ultramarine”. This passion for unrestrictive creativity is clearly at the heart of “Azure (Emotion)”, a thrilling collaboration with Ripperton where both artists twist life out of a modular system. Finally there are tracks as intense as the Acid workout “Sapphire (Tessellate)“ and the techno- influenced “Cerulean“. Their electric tension easily creates a watershed moment on the dance floor that lingers long after the night is gone. An imperceptible thread lays within the album's tracks. It molds “Shades” into an outstanding album by an artist on top of his game, highlighting Quarion's ever-growing talent for producing music of the deeper kind.

Live DJ Set @Wilde Renate
A pumping set that I recorded while playing in one of my favourite Berlin clubs, Salon Zur Wilden Renate. Some rough mixes but so much energy! Picture by Skye Sobejko

Quarion x Ripperton (To The Blaze @ Folklor 16/06/18)
Back in the summer of 2018, I was invited by my good friend Ripperton to perform for his "To The Blaze" party series in Lausanne's Folklor. Somewhere around 5 in the morning, we decided to play back 2 back and this resulted in one of my favourite moments of 2018. Merci Raph!

Plasmik - Grande (Quarion Remix) - Snippet
A little taste of my rework for Plasmik, coming out soon on their new Wronkey imprint! Relentless drive and a detroit-y chord progression.

Cobblestone EP Trailer
I'm very happy with this EP that came out early july 2018 on Drumpoet Community... 3 tracks that showcase my definition of house music: groovy, hipnotic and emotional. [email protected] DEPOT bday - Das Lokal 13.10.2017
The complete recording of my set for DEEP DEPOT in DAS LOKAL, a perfectly-sized club based in Wroclaw, Poland. I had a great time there and I honestly think I performed one of my best sets of 2017 that night... I definitely was in the proverbial "zone". Thanks again to the fabulous people that came out for a dance plus Rafal and the two Jakubs for the invitation!

QNA - Tabor Session - Teaser
A teaser of my upcoming collaboration with swedish maestro Joel Alter. Three sizzling tracks coming out on True Rotary on September 18th 2017! From the press release: ""Tabor Session" is a hypnotizing piece of modern techno fusing driving beats with a myriad of synths and eerie sounds in a complete balance. Like an ensemble of dancers on the verge of loosing control. While "Memory Lane" shows the melancholic mindset of the artists, "Sansui Cruise" is full of playfulness and raw bouncy beats in a tribal groove."

youANDme - All Comes Back (Feat. Gjaezon - Quarion's Motion Tracker Dub) - Snippet
This is a teaser of my rework for youANDme, coming out in a few weeks on Drumpoet Community. Feel those bassbins rattle!

Marbert Rocel - With Your Love (Quarion Remix) - Snippet
A little extract of my remix for Marbert Rocel coming out on Compost. I tried different approaches but somehow it ended up in a very dubby and trippy affair. Play this one at the right moment and it will have a mesmerizing effect on the dancers... Available here: https://marbert-rocel.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-beginning-remixes http://oye-records.com/sgl.php?id=157971&aplay=0 http://www.juno.co.uk/products/marbert-rocel-in-the-beginning-remixes/639169-01/ http://www.traxsource.com/title/747568/in-the-beginning-remixes https://www.beatport.com/release/in-the-beginning-remixes/1935696

Sumo - Orion (Quarion remix) - snippet
A snippet of my rework for Sumo, one of the tightest funk/electronic band from my hometown Geneva. This is just a snippet so please make sure to check out the whole journey here: https://www.beatport.com/release/galactika-revisited/1877314 https://itunes.apple.com/ch/album/orion-quarion-remix/id1167677502?i=1167677810&l http://www.junodownload.com/products/sumo-galactika-revisited/3246816-02/

Ice Caps
The story of a disappearance... let's use all of our powers to prevent it from happening. Live one-take Octatrack tweak with extra Rytm percussion. 9th of November 2016

164 Feet Field Elevation (DJ Mix)
Inspired by my new neighborhood, this club mix is built on trippy, soulful, quirky and heavy tracks which I've been excited to play out recently. Enjoy!

Funkhaus Phantoms - Snippets
Released on Ripperton's Tamed imprint, this EP contains two of my deepest excursions to date. At the time, I was making music in the Funkhaus, a huge complex that used to be the GDR Radio offices for East Berlin. The building would become rather eerie and spooky during the night, and this would be the time where I would come up with strange and hipnotic tracks such as these... Clubbing Afterglow (DJ Mix)
I've had a string of very inspiring DJ sets over the last few weeks but I couldn't manage to record any of them unfortunately. Hence my idea of selecting a few current favorites and blend them as if I was playing in a club. It's impossible to translate the energy of a party into a DJ set recorded at home... but I think this mix comes pretty close! Special thanks to Loe.Loe. (https://soundcloud.com/loe-loe) for the pic and Paul Kav (https://soundcloud.com/cousin-paul) for the extra gear.

Machine Passion: Hardware-only Live Set (snippet)
Stagnation is one of my worst fears and for this reason, I love to set myself new challenges. So I recently chose to ditch the computer for live shows and started building a strictly hardware setup with the wonderful Octatrack as the main hub. Definitely one of the best decisions in my musical life ;-) From now on, I'll be performing live shows exclusively with this new configuration and you can get an idea of what it sounds like with this 20-minute one-take demo!

L'Ultimo Viaggio
My grandmother embarked on her ultimate journey a few hours ago... I just felt that I had to give her a proper farewell with my medium of preference. Grazie per tutto nonna, ti amo.

A Dance With The Clouds II
Another sweet selection of boogie and disco tracks that I'm particularly fond of... There are many "classics" in there but it never hurts to hear them again and again ;-) Thanks to Volcov, Hunee and Sadar Bahar for making me discover some of these gems.

Busted Moniker EP - Trailer
Here it is, a trailer featuring all 4 tracks from the "Busted Moniker" EP. It's quite a jazzy affair and I had a lot of fun producing these 4 tracks! Get all the info here: http://www.retreat-vinyl.de/39657/releases/quarion-busted-moniker-ep-rtr16/

Kommune Podcast #1 - Quarion
In prevision of my performance at Cruquiusgilde this June (http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?713391), I've recorded a DJ mix for the Kommune crew. It features a handful of favourites that I've been playing for a while (Dorisburg, Aybee, Simon Haydo) as well as some new tunes from Session Victim, Lando and myself. The mix is more on the techno tip... although I don't think it goes beyond 124 BPM ;-) Enjoy!

Good Thing
wow...more than 25000 fans...I am speechless! As a little gift for your vital support, here's an exclusive track that you can stream, download, play out in the club, bump in your earbuds or listen to at home... Indeed, you and I "got a good thing"! THANK YOU! ps: extra shouts to https://soundcloud.com/dachshund for the tight mastering and to https://soundcloud.com/loe-loe for the psychedelic drawing!

Summer Of The Remix
A little Ableton jam featuring all the Quarion reworks that were released during the summer of '14: Chopstick & Johnjon - Run Slowly (Quarion Dub) - Suol Chopstick & Johnjon - Run Slowly (Quarion Remix) - Suol Jerome C - The Wind (Quarion's Bethlehem Remix) - Apersonal J.E.E.P. - Answering Machine (Quarion Remix) - Carry On Cover mash-up by loe.loe. (https://soundcloud.com/loe-loe)

Jerome C - The Wind - Quarion's Bethlehem Remix (Snippet)
A snippet of my upcoming remix for Jerome C, out on Apersonal at the end of June. I went straight for the gut on that one...check out the evil Juno-6 bass which should rumble a few speakers this summer!

J.E.E.P. - Answering Machine - Quarion Remix - Snippet
A little teaser of my upcoming remix for the talented J.E.E.P. AKA Jules Etienne. Coming out in june 2014!

Ianeq - "Visions" (1999)
My first ever released track, a rather deep (and melancholic) Hip-hop instrumental I did for a compilation on Mental Groove / Fondation CMA in 1999. The vinyl came out later on Synchrovision (still has to show up on Discogs!). I did this one on the MPC 2000 and the Yamaha A3000 sampler and mixed it down with Clive Jenkins in the legendary Artamis art space in Geneva. Needless to say I was ecstatic when I finally received a vinyl copy of the compilation. It was an huge achievement for me: i wasn't just a music fan anymore, i also became an artist with an official release!

Shale Gas EP - Snippets
A little tease of my upcoming EP on the very fresh Muhk imprint from Sweden. I digged a bit more in my machines so there's an overall rawer and more "techno" sound on these tunes. I'm particularly happy with "Shale Gas" where I used only a TR-808 and an SH-101 as sound sources. Let's dive deeper in the wonderful world of hardware synthesis ;-)

Love & Mercy - Rainfall - Quarion RMX & QRN Dub - snippet
A snippet featuring my 2 reworks for Love & Mercy on Man Make Music! First up is the digi-only Quarion Remix, a lil SH-101 journey that ventures in different territories. Oh, there's some 808 action at some point too! Then there's the vinyl-only QRN dub, a stripped-down-to-the-bone version using only my good old MPC 3000 and the 909. Which one do you prefer?

Golden Autumn DJ Mix
It's been a while since I've posted a mix online but I came accross so many nice tunes these last few weeks that I felt it was time for a little home session on the 1's and 2's. This set goes in many directions and features music from Vakula, Kim Brown, Baikal, Headless Ghost, Eduardo De La Calle, CVBox and Mark Seven among many others. Oh and there's even a track from my upcoming EP on Muhk ;-)

Shifts In The Environment (minimix)
This is a minimix containing all tracks from my latest EP on Retreat, "Shifts In The Environment". It's my first record in almost 3 years and I'm very happy with it ;-) Additional info can be found here: http://www.retreat-vinyl.de/38381/releases/quarion-shifts-in-the-environment-ep-rtr13/ The mix is a quick and easy blend with 2 vinyl copies and some live EQing. The tunes played are "The Plump Shrew", "Digging For Water" and "The Red Room".

Live with TR-909 & Moog Minitaur @ Zukunft (snippet)
One of my personal highlights of 2012 was to play again at the wonderful Zukunft club in Zürich along with my buddies Alex Dallas, Soultourist and John Daly. John recorded both of our live shows with a mic that was set near the turntables, so you can hear the music AND the crowd. It's the real deal! Equipment: Mac Laptop, Roland TR-909, Moog Minitaur, M-Audio Trigger Finger & Echo Soundcard. Tracks: "Free To Grow" (Remix), "Vibrations", "A Night At The Zukunft" (of course!), "Karasu" and "Turn Off The Light". Special thanks to John Daly for recording this session!

The Hints - Downtown
This one came out on "Treats Vol.4" and its the first track of a new project with multi-instrumentalist Jules Etienne (one of Berlin's best kept musical secrets). The info sheet goes like this: "The Hints prefer an old school approach to making music, so apart from the mpc beat and sampled vocal, all the instruments have been played live by Q & J on the 110 bpm Boogie monster that is Downtown: liquid Pianet chords, Poly 61 stabs, a killer bassline, dramatic organ layers, live (and loose) percussion and even a quick trumpet melody! The groove is tight and could go on for hours but the Hints like to come up with new chords so we’re treated with a wonderful bridge that appears twice in the song. The Hints also love to keep things short and sweet, so Downtown stays under the 6-minute mark but leaves a fulfilling impression."

Live with TR-909 & SH-101 @ +4 Bar, Berlin (snippet)
This is a snippet of my live set in August 2012 at +4 Bar, the cool and cozy floor in the mighty Tresor club in Berlin! Gear: Roland TR-909, Roland SH-101, Kenton CV-to-Midi Converter, M-Audio Trigger Finger, Echo Soundcard and Apple laptop. Tracks: "Pepper Candy", "A Night At The Zukunft", "Karasu" and "Turn Off The Light".

A Dance With The Clouds
This is a DJ set I recorded about a year ago for the LUVJAM crew in Wales and contains some of my all-time boogie favourites! Mega shouts to Hunee, Jules Etienne, Sadar Bahar, Theo Parrish, Force Of Nature and DPC for the inspiration!

YO Q, wassup?!? keep on havin' fun! LOL as I said I couldn't hear what you started from, so was difficult to judge. nice work anyway! gee, just saw the program for saturday (Alhambar's 10th anniversary party). thought we were supposed to be both on the line-up but I see you're not there, it's a shame!

Hey Ly! I appreciate your comment. I mean, this is just a little track I did with the parts the guys put on SC. More like a fun thing, so the sound is still really ruff...but I'm glad you and some other people like it! Maybe we should really have a release ;-) Have a try with the parts as well!

I haven't heard the original but I like your remix (as a lot of your recent work!) nevertheless I know it's probably not mixed down and I'm listening to it on small headphones, but it seems to me that the melody is a little bit too loud in comparison to the bass. that bass seems really tight and would ground the track even better if mixed a little louder. this is of course only my poor opinion. what do you think?
Yeaa awesome dude ! Like it :)
